Furthermore, through the sounds of letters system, children are better understanding that oral language is comprised of individual sounds and can be divided into smaller components. It leads to a raise of phonemic awareness. Phonemic awareness is crucial for students learning to read in English. It refers to a conscious level of understanding about the sound structure of words. Hence, through Jolly Phonics program, children are isted to develop the conscious awareness of phoneme. Many studies has been conducted that acquisition of phonemic awareness of children occurs when phonics are taught initially, and it has a great benefit to the further literacy development (Stuart, 1999; Stuart, 2004; Smith, Deborah C. Simmons, Mary M. Gleason el. 2001; and Bowey, 2006). Stuart (1999) points out that teaching phoneme awareness and phonics in the early age can radically improve reading and spelling standards in inner city second language learners. Continuously, in his experiment, he confirms that children who undertake the Jolly Phonics program at the early age, are more likely to aware of sound sensitively, and have a significant istant on their literacy skills. Some empirical evidences consistently support the earlier developing phonemic awareness, the great help relate to achievement of reading (Patrick Groff, Eh.D, 2001). Simultaneously, some studies indicate that the priority of developing phonemic awareness instruction before formal reading instruction would benefit for children with reading defectiveness. It not only improves their reading and spelling skills, but also helps them develop phonemic decoding skills (Smith, Deborah C. Simmons, Mary M. Gleason el., 2001 and Bowey, 2006).
