Is key west (for people who live in or around key west)?

Key West is definitely an artsy funky place. In a good way. They have a nightly sunset festival at Mallory Square where there are lot's of local art being sold. Everything is more expensive down there though. Gas and milk are the worst. It's a very bike friendly place. There are probably more bikes and scooters on the island than cars and trucks. Fishing is awesome down there and there are a lot of daily fishing cruises for a reasonable price. It's a pretty safe place to live though you will want to do your research on the area you'd be moving to. There are some areas you wouldn't want to live in. I'd stay away from Duval Street at night since there are over 100 bars on that one street. It can get crazy down there at night. All and all it's an awesome place to live & I loved it for the year I was down there.
