River on the equator?

I was just thinking acouple months ago what would happen if a river was on the equator?? Seance rivers flow towards the equator (besides the nile and some other one) what would happen if a river ran right through the equator and was on both sides of the hemphiser... The to ends would collide creating a lake or something so i think... any other ideas or explaintitons out there for i would love to here them
