What happens if you don't get a Christian burial?

well i'm reading Hamlet right now and in it the gravedigger said that Ophelia shouldn't get a Christian burial because she committed suicide. i don't know if that's true now, but my question is what happens if you don't get a Christian burial (if you're Christian anyway)? do you end up going to hell or what?
